The winter’s most read stories

Rounding up the best of the blog this year

We share plenty of stories every winter (and summer) from the mountains. If you’ve missed some, or want to relive the season all over again, here are our most-read articles from this past winter.

1. This season’s top heli-skiing photos at CMH

We could spend a long while describing this heli-skiing season, from some of the deepest December days in recent memory to the all-time, blue-bird spring afternoons, and all of the smiles in between. But we’d rather show you. Catch up on our favourite flicks from across all 11 CMH destinations.

2. What to wear heli-skiing

Heli-skiing in Canada demands a lot of your clothes and gear, to say nothing of your quads. It’s important that your apparel is dialled for these demands. In this article, we spoke with Assistant Manager of Retail Services, Graeme McIsaac, to get the details on how to layer and dress for heli-skiing.

3. Experience a day of heli-skiing

Ikon Pass athlete Tim Humphreys brings along for a day-in-the-life POV on a day heli-skiing at CMH Kootenay. From the moment he gets up all the way to the very end of his day, he shows the ins and outs of daily life at one of our heli-skiing lodges. Morning yoga, sweet potato ginger soup and a yeti. Oh, and some 10/10 pillow lines.

4. How to pick the right signature trip for you

Our Signature Trip is the format heli-skiing was built on. Up to 11 guests and one guide flying in a Bell 212, searching for the goods. We offer it at eight of our lodges, which begs the question: how do you choose? Don’t fret, team. We put together this piece to compare and contrast our Signature program so you know exactly what’s the best fit for your dream heli-skiing trip.

5. How a stranded family found a home away from home

The mountains are unpredictable. So when night had fallen and an avalanche came down and blocked the only road back to the airport, what were the Leach family, visiting from Maine, to do? Deep in the mountains of British Columbia, they faced a night spent sleeping in their car with two young sons. Fortunately, a set of headlights in the rearview changed everything.

If any one of these stories got you excited about the idea of making some of your own next winter, we’d love to help make that happen.
