An email landed in our inbox last week from longtime guest Eric Dube, who was writing from CMH Revelstoke during his first trip of the season.
“It’s as good of a week as it can get!” he wrote. He also sent a suggestion that more people should hear updates directly from guests when possible.
We agree! So we invited Eric to answer a few questions and share his firsthand account, straight from someone who just skied there (and who has plans to return twice more this winter).
Eric has skied around 2.7 million vertical feet at CMH during the past 10 years, at a variety of our 11 destinations.
In short, he knows what he’s talking about.
Here’s what he had to say about his trip (Dec 12-17, 2024):
Q & A with a Million Footer
You’re just coming off a trip to Revelstoke. Tell us about it.
Eric: We had an EPIC trip. All conditions were present, and more. It was a great snowpack, great friends, and good stability. We could fly every day, and we had two fast-paced groups so there was a lot of good quality vertical skied!
What was the highlight of the week for you?
Eric: The highlight was skiing the run ‘Chivas’ in perfect condition top to bottom.
You’ve been on a lot of CMH trips. How do the current conditions compare to what you’ve experienced in the past?
ERIC: All trips differ depending on snow/weather conditions, and this one ticked all the boxes!
Revelstoke is a regular CMH destination for you. What is it about Revelstoke that keeps you coming back?
ERIC: I have a few preferred CMH places and Revy is one of them. I really like the CMH crew and the staff at the Regent Hotel. They create a spirit and an atmosphere for my heli-skiing experience that I really enjoy.
Bigger picture, why do you come to CMH?
ERIC: When I was a kid, my dad’s cousin told me about his experience at CMH, so it became a dream to do it once in my life. I never thought it would become a highlight of my annual tradition! I had the goal, and then once at the Adamants I was lucky to meet some very nice folks from the UK—a father and daughter. We built a great friendship and kept in contact. Now we make as many trips annually to CMH as we can.
Why do you look forward to your CMH trips?
ERIC: To me, CMH trips are not just a ski trip. They are a full experience of backcountry adventure with skilled guides, with friends who share the same passion of B.C.’s great snow and terrain!
You’re from Quebec, Canada. With so many options elsewhere, why do you choose to focus your ski trips in Canada?
ERIC: I have tried a few places in Colorado, Utah, and Europe, but my personal best—for the mix of snow and terrain—is the BC area. I haven’t found another place that provides me that experience of snow + terrain + excitement!
What would you say to anyone who might be considering a heli-skiing trip to CMH?
ERIC: Try it with an open mind, because weather is out of our control. But regardless of the weather, you will experience a great adventure with scenery and runs that will create good memories. You’ll meet folks with a passion for snow. You’ll appreciate your turns and jumps even more if you focus on being in shape.
Oh, and fair warning that it may be hard to resist doing this as a repeat tradition to share with friends!
