In Memoriam: Ernst Buehler 1945-2017, Mountain Guide & Friend

Dear CMH Family –

It is with great sadness, but also a lot of wonderful memories that I’m letting you know that our dear friend Ernie passed away yesterday evening in Banff after a short struggle with cancer.  He said goodbye with Cheryl, his sons Jackson and Garret and close friends by his side.

Ernie was one of those unique, “they broke the mold…” characters that define the CMH tribe.  I can’t begin to imagine how many people’s lives he touched, and how much joy and laughter he brought them during his 42-year career with CMH as a guide and manager of the Cariboos.  His calm, quietly masterful approach to guiding his guests through our mountain world was an inspiration for all of who aspired to follow him.  His warm and unpretentious manner, and his infectious giggle epitomized hospitality at CMH.  Everyone left the Cariboos feeling that he was their friend.

Ernie and Cheryl were married in his hospital room on Tuesday with a group of friends gathered outside.  It was an emotional and joyful event celebrating their love and a truly amazing person. Send Cheryl all your love and hugs.

A Celebration of Life for Ernie Buehler will be held on October 3rd at the Rose and Crown in Banff at 5 pm. More details can be found here.

With best wishes to all,

Rob
