GERMAN-BORN STEFAN was 16 when he started climbing seriously, thus beginning a life-long affair with mountains. “Germany only has a small part of the Alps, but is is such good climbing limestone,” he notes. Having begun his professional life as a teacher, Stefan soon switched to mountain guiding, both ski and rock, and joined CMH in 2003. “I got lucky – they only took one European out of six who applied that year,”  said the former Assistant Area Manager of the Gothics, who currently commutes from Germany to guide for CMH. Too bad his new life makes his old ski buddies so jealous. “They wrote me saying, ‘Stop sending us all those freakin’ pictures.'”
